This video clip shows Dr Flip Stander using a dart gun which uses compressed air to fire a tranquiliser dart to anaesthetise a lion in the Kunene region. Once the lion has been darted it falls asleep and Flip can approach it and take blood samples, measurements and if required fit or maintain a radio collar. Flip carries out this sort of procedure on a regular basis as part of the Desert Lion project.
